Enjoy the Best Night in Nagasaki with Karaoke and Darts: An Interview with Live & Bar Beast

Looking for a place in Nagasaki to enjoy drinks, music, and good times? Look no further than Bar Beast! Popular with locals and foreigners alike, Bar Beast offers high-quality karaoke, darts, and a unique live music experience. Imagine yourself belting out your favorite tunes with a live band backing you up - at Bar Beast, it's a reality! Boasting top-notch sound equipment comparable to live music venues, this bar promises a night to remember. We had the opportunity to interview Mr. Yokoo, the owner of Bar Beast, to learn more about this vibrant establishment.

Q1: When did your bar open?

We opened our doors in September 2015, and in 2018 we relocated to our current, new location.

Q2: What makes Bar Beast unique?

Our aim is to create a space where music lovers can fully immerse themselves and enjoy their passion. We provide guitars, a bass, and drums for those wanting to jam, and we even have an open mic for anyone brave enough to sing with a live band!

Q3: Can customers sing karaoke with live instruments?

Absolutely! We pride ourselves on having top-of-the-line sound equipment, similar to what you’d find in a professional live music venue, so you can expect the best sound quality for your performance. We confidently believe that we are among the best karaoke bars in Nagasaki prefecture in terms of sound quality.

Q4: What is the most important thing you focus on in your daily operations?

Without a doubt, it's the quality of our drinks. For instance, while many places serve soda in plastic bottles, we insist on using small glass bottles to ensure the carbonation stays optimal. We care about those little details.

Q5: What has been your biggest challenge so far?

The COVID-19 pandemic was definitely the toughest time for us. It was a period of perseverance with barely any customers coming in. Thankfully, it's just a memory now.

Q6: Have you had a lot of international customers since you opened?

While Nagasaki is close to the US Navy base in Sasebo, the majority of our customers are local. I would say the ratio is about 90% Japanese customers and 10% foreigners.

Q7: Which countries do most of your international customers come from?

We tend to get quite a few Americans, British, and French customers. We see fewer customers from other Asian countries.

Q8: Do you have anything to help international customers feel welcome, like an English menu?

We don't currently have an English menu, but we do have some English-speaking staff. While they aren't always on shift, our other team members are happy to assist customers using translation apps.

Q9: What made you want to start attracting international customers?

Nagasaki doesn’t tend to attract huge numbers of tourists, so we saw an opportunity to open our doors to a wider audience and make our bar a welcoming place for visitors to Nagasaki.

Q10: Since COVID-19 restrictions have eased, have you noticed an increase in international customers?

Yes, we have actually. And we've found that our international patrons tend to visit us more frequently, which is fantastic!

Q11: Any heartwarming or amusing stories involving your international customers?

We haven’t had any particularly extraordinary incidents, but many of our international visitors become regulars, and they're all incredibly polite and a pleasure to host.

Q12: Have there been any particularly memorable moments for you as the owner?

I’m always impressed when a customer points at an item on the menu and speaks to us in their native language. When we hold our phone with a translation app open nearby, it translates instantly. It's incredibly helpful, not to mention pretty amazing to see in action.

Q13: Is there a story behind the name “Bar Beast”?

Honestly, we just chose it because we loved the sound of it!

Q14: Is there anything you'd like international customers to be mindful of?

Just to be respectful, as they would anywhere, and to drink responsibly. Most of all, we want everyone to have a fun and memorable time experiencing Nagasaki's nightlife!

Q15: Do you offer any special benefits for international customers who mention Pleasure in Japan?

Absolutely! Show us that you’ve heard about us on “Pleasure in Japan,” and we’ll happily offer you a complimentary drink.

Q16: Any final message for potential visitors from abroad?

Don’t hesitate to come and join us for a night of music and fun! We offer a stylish and spacious environment for you to unwind, enjoy some karaoke, and make unforgettable memories.
